If you’re going to measure something, measure the right thing.
I personally like the RENPHO smart scale (and yes, this is the one I actually use and recommend).
Here’s why I like it for athletes:
It gives you:
-
Body fat percentage
-
Skeletal muscle mass
-
Total body water
-
Bone mass
-
Visceral fat estimate
-
BMR
Now we’re talking.
Because now if your weight goes up, you can see:
“Did I gain muscle?” “Is this water?” “Is fat trending up or stable?”
That changes everything.
This Is Biofeedback
When you train hard, your body fluctuates.
Water shifts. Glycogen shifts. Inflammation shifts. Muscle builds slowly.
A body composition scale gives you trend data.
And trends are what matter.
Not Tuesday morning after pasta night.
If your lean mass is trending up over 8 weeks? You’re winning.
If fat mass is slowly creeping up in the off-season? Now we adjust.
If water is chronically low? Hydration conversation.
That’s intelligent coaching. Not emotional reacting.
The Mental Game Matters
I have seen too many athletes let a basic scale:
All because of a number with zero context.
You are not trying to be lighter, or heavier.
You are trying to be stronger. Faster. More powerful. More resilient.
Knowing the breakdown of your body composition is what really matters.
That's what healthy athetes do.
My Advice to You
If you’re going to track weight, track it intelligently by tracking body comp instead.
Upgrade your data.
Use a body composition scale like the RENPHO (and yes, I have. discount code for you), and watch trends instead of daily fluctuations.
Or better yet?
If the scale messes with your head, remove it completely and focus on:
-
Performance metrics
-
Strength numbers
-
Energy levels
-
Recovery quality
You are an athlete.
Stop letting a meaningless number define you.
Start measuring what actually matters.
